Above-Lyriq Electric Cadillac Crossover Spied Testing Again

An electric Cadillac crossover that will slot above the Lyriq is on the way. The upcoming model is far enough along in the development process to warrant prototype testing, as Cadillac Society was first to report back in February. Shortly thereafter, our spies caught the model undergoing testing. And now, we caught the upcoming EV testing once again, revealing more key details about its interior and exterior design.

Unfortunately, the zebra-like pattern on this particular vehicle’s camo make it difficult to discern the lines. Even so, we can pick out a few features. The most readily discernable factor is the size of this electric Cadillac crossover, which appears to have a similar exterior footprint as the current Cadillac XT6. However, this prototype clearly has a longer dash-to-axle ratio than the XT6, enabling a more cab-rearward configuration.

Another angle reveals the electric Cadillac crossover’s glass roof, which sports a three-pane layout. The first pane appears to be capable of opening, while the other two are likely fixed in place. Additionally, we can see a sleek shark-fin antenna affixed to the roof, just ahead of the liftgate.

The rear end seems to feature a set of vertical tail lamps with elements tracing the side of the vehicle’s D-pillars. A short spoiler hangs over the rear glass, while also integrating a center high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL). A tow hitch receiver also seems to be visible below the rear bumper cover.

Also of note are chrome window surrounds and the flush-mounted door handles, similar to those of the Lyriq.

While the image isn’t entirely clear, the interior appears to feature a cockpit configuration similar to that of the Lyriq. However, the curved screen  panel doesn’t look like it’s wide enough to incorporate both the infotainment cluster as well as the center infotainment screen, though the finer details are difficult to make out here.

The forthcoming electric Cadillac crossover will ride on a longer variant of the BEV3 architecture that underpins the Lyriq. Ultium batteries and Ultium Drive motors will deliver the power. This model may also incorporate rear-wheel steering for increased maneuverability, as evidenced by a different set of spy shots.

It’s currently unclear what nameplate this vehicle will wear, but the luxury marque has filed to trademark LumistiqAscendiqVistiq, and Optiq for use on future electric models. This may be revealed in short order, however, as the electric Cadillac crossover is expected to debut during the 2023 calendar year as a 2024 model year vehicle.
