Porsche was the big winner at the 12 Hours Of Sebring last week, crossing the finish line with a one-two punch in GTP as well as a first-place finish in GTD Pro. Meanwhile, Cadillac Racing saw the Whelen Engineering V-Series.R take third place in GTP even though it was the fourth car in its class to blow by the checkered flag.
The No. 10 car of Wayne Taylor Racing, which was piloted by Filipe Albuquerque, Will Stevens, and Ricky Taylor, actually finished the race in third place. However, it was disqualified after a post-race inspection due to excessive camber.
Since the No. 10 V-Series.R was DQ’d and relegated to last place, the fourth-place No. 31 Welen Engineering race car was bumped to third place. Jack Aitken, Earl Bamber, and Frederik Vesti manned the wheel and put up a good fight throughout the entire race, though there was a tiny bit of drama early on when one of the Porsches hit the rear end.
“We just sort of battled all day and tried our best. Honestly, we had a good car at the start, but we didn’t have anything at the end,” Bamber said. “I don’t know if we had damage from our impact earlier in the race. We got torn up, no penalties accessed from race control which was surprising and that was about it.”
The other Wayne Taylor Racing V-Series.R – the No. 40 car driven by Louis Deletraz, Colton Herta and Jordan Taylor – managed to finish in the top 10 of its class. Although the other two Cadillac Racing entrants passed the checkered flag first, it was the No. 40 V-Series.R that recorded the fastest lap out of the bunch with a time of 1:49.428. For the sake of comparison, the fastest lap was 1:49.461 for the No. 10 Cadillac and 1:49.955 for the No. 31 Cadillac.
