Extremely cold weather is known to cause all sorts of electrical mishaps due to weakened batteries. In the case of Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV SUVs of the 2022 through 2026 model years, it may be the cause of brake issues. In response to these concerns, the automaker has issued a service bulletin.
Symptoms include a Service Engine Soon light, an ABS malfunction warning, and Service StabiliTrak or Service Brake System messages. Notably, such indicators are fairly typical when it comes to low-voltage conditions caused by weak batteries. However, one specific diagnostic trouble code (DTC) may indicate an issue with the Brake System Control Module.
As a result of this fault, drivers may also notice a change in brake pedal feel. According to the service bulletin, the fault code is more likely to occur when temperatures drop below -10 degrees Fahrenheit (-23 degrees Celsius). The specific DTC is C055F for 2022 – 2025 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV models. Meanwhile, the DTC for 2026 Escalades is C0597.
If the indicators or brake pedal issue are present, dealer technicians are advised to first check for the presence of the aforementioned codes. Since Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, believes the underlying issue may stem from the aforementioned low-voltage condition, techs must first rule out any electrical issues. This includes testing the battery and replacing it if needed, as well as inspecting the battery cables, the engine harness junction or fuse block, and the battery fuse block connections. Ground and fuse connections should also be checked for signs of corrosion or looseness.
To clarify, the service bulletin applies to all 2022-2026 Escalade and Escalade ESV models, regardless of which engine is under the hood. This includes the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel I6 (production code LM2, discontinued after the 2024 model year), the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter (production code L87), and the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 (production code LT4), which powers the spicier Escalade-V.
Of course, if your Cadillac Escalade is exhibiting any of the trouble codes or atypical brake pedal feel, then you should take it to your local dealership for inspection.
