The sub-par Cadillac CT5 sales performance are the direct result of extremely low, almost non-existent Cadillac CT5 inventory. Production of the CT5 was idled at the Cadillac Lansing Grand River plant for a large chunk of the 2021 calendar year due to the ongoing global microchip shortage, resulting in severe inventory shortages at the dealer level. Assembly only resumed in full for the 2022 model year in October of 2021, and many units didn’t reach dealer lots in time for the fourth quarter to come to an end.
As production continues at full capacity, we expect Cadillac CT5 sales to rebound as the luxury marque satisfies pent-up demand for the luxury sedan. Additionally, we expect sales of the ultra-high-performance 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing to help bolster sales numbers, albeit production figures – which Cadillac does not disclose – appear to be low.
Despite the return to normal production levels, it should be noted that many Cadillac CT5 units are currently shipping without certain features, also a result of the microchip shortage. The luxury sedan is currently not able to be built with Super Cruise, Cadillac’s semi-autonomous driver assist feature, along with heated and ventilated seats or certain park assist features. Withholding such features from the CT5 allows the luxury marque to continue to produce the vehicle, and to retrofit these features at a later time.
