The second-generation 2024 BMW X2 has been revealed, and it’s on it’s way to go up against the Cadillac XT4 in the subcompact luxury crossover segment. The X2 features more coupe-like styling when compared to its sibling and platform mate, the BMW X1, which already competes in the same segment as the XT4.
The overhauled BMW X2 boasts larger exterior dimensions than its outgoing first-generation counterpart, gaining 7.6 inches in length for a total of 179.8 inches from a wheelbase that now measures in at 106 inches, 0.9 inches longer than the 2023 model. Overall width has increased by 0.8 inches for 72.6 inches overall, and the model gained 2.5 inches of height at 62.5 inches tall.
Two trim levels will be offered for the 2024 BMW X2, including the X2 xDrive28i and the range-topping X2 M35i xDrive. The 28i model is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine, which is rated at 241 horsepower in xDrive28i guise. Opting for the M35i xDrive brings that to a more potent 312 horsepower. Both engines connect to a seven-speed double-clutch automatic transmission.
Inside, the 2024 BMW X2 features a BMW Curved Display running the iDrive 9 infotainment system, with a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster plus a 10.7-inch center display. Driving Assistant Professional is available, which offers hands-free driving up to 40 mph.
Comparatively, the refreshed 2024 Cadillac XT4 is powered by a single engine – the turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY). The boosted gasoline four-cylinder is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to the nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard while all-wheel-drive is optional.
Pricing for the 2024 Cadillac XT4 starts at $43,190 for the base Luxury trim with front-wheel-drive. The 2024 BMW X2, meanwhile, carries a starting MSRP of $42,000 for the X2 xDrive28i, while the X2 M35i starts at $51,400.
With the introduction of the all-new X2, BMW is back to a one-two punch in the subcompact crossover segment, as the the more “coupe-like” X2 will join the more traditionally-styled X1. In the most recent past, Cadillac has been outselling both BMW nameplates combined with just the XT4, but it’s likely that the Bavarians’ new duo will infuse some new blood into the sales rivalry.
