The Cadillac Society Take
The 19 percent year-over-year decrease in Cadillac Canada sales during the first quarter of 2021 represents the third consecutive quarter of contractions for the luxury marque in the Canadian market. However, the first quarter results represent an important recovery when compared to the 49.5 percent decline in Q4 of 2021. In fact, Cadillac went from selling 1,852 vehicles in the last quarter of last year to delivering 3,049 units during Q1 2022 in Canada, representing an additional 1,197 units. That represents a fairly healthy increase of 64.6 percent on a quarter-over-quarter basis.
This significant sales volume improvement for Cadillac in Canada is due to improved unit availability in the local market, with notable quarterly increases for the Cadillac Escalade as well as the XT5 and XT4 crossovers. Notably, the Escalade was again the brand’s only model to achieve sales growth on a year-over-year basis thanks to combined deliveries of 962 units. The performance strengthens the Escalade’s position as Cadillac’s best-selling vehicle in North America.
Meanwhile, the Cadillac XT5 followed closely with 822 deliveries, representing a healthy 40 percent increase compare to the 588 units sold in Q4 2021.
