Cadillac Lyriq

The Cadillac Lyriq is an electric luxury crossover. It is the first BEV to be produced and marketed by Cadillac. The “Lyriq” moniker is a nod to the impressive number of times that Cadillac is referenced in song lyrics while also falling in line with the luxury marque’s “IQ” electric vehicle naming strategy.

The Lyriq utilizes the Ultium battery platform and Ultium Drive technology for propulsion. It indirectly replaces the Cadillac XT5, which will exit the North American market in the near future as part of the luxury marque’s plan to go all-electric

First Generation

The Cadillac Lyriq show car was unveiled in August 2020, followed by the reveal of the production model in early 2021 as a 2023 model year vehicle. It’s the first vehicle built by Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, to utilize the all-new BEV3 platform, which was specifically developed to underpin electric vehicles.

“Lyriq was conceived to make every journey exhilarating and leverages more than a century of innovation to drive the brand into a new era, while rewarding passengers with a more personal, connected and immersive experience,” Cadillac Lyriq Chief Engineer Jamie Brewer stated in a prepared statement. “To do this we developed an architecture specifically for EVs.  It is not only an exceptional EV, but first and foremost a Cadillac.”

Production of the 2023 Lyriq commenced at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee and the Cadillac Jinqiao plant in Shanghai in March 2022. At Spring Hill, the Lyriq is built alongside the Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac XT6 luxury crossovers.

The first units to roll off this assembly were Lyriq Debut Edition models, which exclusively feature rear-wheel-drive facilitated by a single motor on tne rear axle. Later on in the 2022 calendar year, the Lyriq AWD was introduced, adding a second motor to the front axle. Once assembly of the Lyriq Debut Edition wrapped up, production of the 2023 Lyriq AWD commenced before operations shifted focus to the 2024 model year.

The 2024 Lyriq introduces notable changes and updates to the luxury electric crossover. This includes a completely revamped trim level structure, beginning with the base Tech trim – which is brand new for the Lyriq – before branching into the more well-equipped Sport and Luxury trims. Specifically, the 2024 Lyriq is offered in Luxury 1, Luxury 2, Luxury 3, Sport 1, Sport 2 or Sport 3 trims. A higher number denotes a higher-tier trim outfitted with more options.

Looking ahead, the Lyriq-V will join the lineup. This high-performance model, which features two motors (one on each axle), represents a power upgrade over the “regular” AWD Lyriq. It builds on the existing Sport trim with performance upgrades and unique styling cues. The existence of the Lyriq-V was first hinted at by an internal leak, followed by our exclusive details regarding the forthcoming EV, which were later confirmed by the sighting of a prototype
