Cadillac China sales decreased five percent to 50,550 units during the fourth quarter of 2023.
Cadillac does not provide individual sales performance of its vehicles in China, but we do have the following information:
- China remains Cadillac’s biggest global market when ranked by sales volume
- The Cadillac CT5 is marque’s most popular model in China
- The sedan sustained robust growth during the fourth quarter
- The luxury brand continued to build its EV momentum with the launch of a new base variant of the Cadillac Lyriq
During the complete 2023 calendar year, Cadillac China sales increased 5.4 percent to 183,600 units.
The Cadillac Society Take
The newfound drop in Cadillac China sales during the fourth quarter of 2023 deepened the marque’s negative performance in the Asian country, representing its second consecutive quarterly drop, following the 20 percent contraction during Q3 of last year. This new setback kept the numbers in the red for both the quarter and the complete calendar year, once again limiting the marque’s performance in the world’s largest automotive market.
Unlike in prior quarters, Cadillac China did not share any specific data on the sales performance of its models during the fourth quarter, only highlighting that the Cadillac CT5 maintained solid growth and continued as the marque’s best-selling model in the Chinese market, a position it has held since 2020. Taking this into account, it’s likely safe to conclude that the rest of Cadillac’s vehicle lineup suffered notable declines during the quarter.
For its part, the new Cadillac Lyriq seems to have been unable to make inroads against its more established competitors in China. The all-electric crossover continues to see slow progress that Cadillac is looking to reverse with the recent launch of a new, more affordable base model in China, with which it hopes to attract more customers while continuing its onslaught of zero-emission vehicles in 2024.

OK,that’s the it goes. Stop catering to China and start taking care of the American car buyers.

Caddy like Buick needs China sales. And cash in on high rollers in China. We are only 23% of China population. Their urban growth and wealth and still high cache of Caddy is of high value to GM.

Cadillac is already “catering to American car buyers.”
The differences is that the Chinese actually buy they products, and do so in greater quantities than the “American car buyers” you refer to.
So why should Cadillac “stop catering to China”? Seriously, please enlighten me.
