The next-generation Cadillac XT5 is on the horizon. However, the luxury crossover will only be sold in China, according to Mark Reuss, president of Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors.
During the GM Investor Day presentation held in late 2022, Reuss revealed some details about the automaker’s future product plans, explaining that the upcoming, next-generation Cadillac XT5 will be sold in China, but will no longer be available in the North American market. It is expected to hit the market during the 2024 calendar year.

“This is for China only, as we move Cadillac in the United States to an all-electric brand,” Reuss said during the presentation. “The XT5 is still a very high-volume segment in China, and we’re going to do that with a new design language interpretation, both inside and out.”
To that end, Cadillac has been positioning the Lyriq as an electric replacement to the XT5, despite the EV having a starting price nearly $20K higher.
Additionally, Reuss confirmed that the Cadillac GT4 will soon make its debut in the Asian country. Images of the subcompact ICE-powered crossover were recently leaked, revealing that a new, turbocharged 1.5L I4 engine will power lower-end models, while higher-end trim will feature the turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY).
There is also a yet-unnamed small electric Cadillac crossover poised to launch in the 2024 calendar year. This EV will be smaller than the Cadillac Lyriq, and could bear one of the names that the luxury marque has filed to trademark, such as Optiq, Symboliq, Lumistiq, Ascendiq or Vistiq.
As a reminder, the 2023 Cadillac XT5 didn’t introduce many changes when it entered production on June 10th, 2022 at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee. The luxury crossover rides on the C1 platform and features a choice of two engine options. The turbocharged 2.0L (production code LSY) engine is standard on the (base) Luxury and Premium Luxury models, where it makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. These models wear the 350T badge on the liftgate. Meanwhile, the naturally-aspirated 3.6L V6 (production code LGX) is optional on the Premium Luxury trim while being standard on the Sport model. The atmospheric six is rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. These models feature the 400 badge out back. Both engines mate to Cadillac’s nine-speed automatic transmission.
