Way back in 2020, before the Cadillac Blackwing models began to be delivered, Cadillac announced that the luxury super sedans would offer sporty magnesium wheels. However, four calendar years and three model years in, and we haven’t seen hide nor hair of the promised mag wheels, and now, we have a minor, but important, update on said rollers.
Cadillac Society Executive Editor, Alex Luft, recently sat down with Cadillac Executive Chief Engineer, Brandon Vivian for an interview, inquiring about the Cadillac Blackwing magnesium wheels, to which Vivian responded, “Stay tuned.”
Vivian’s response indicates that Caddy hasn’t trashed the idea of mag wheels for the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing, even though it has delayed their rollout for several years. In fact, earlier this year, a Cadillac spokesperson confirmed to us that the luxury marque is still “exploring opportunities to offer magnesium wheels,” and reminded enthusiasts that “Cadillac did debut aluminum alloy wheels with a tech bronze finish that provide a similar look as the [magnesium] wheels previewed in 2020. These wheels are available on the V-Series Blackwing lineup today.”
Magnesium wheels are particularly interesting thanks to their exemplary strength-to-weight ratio compared to more commonly used metals, offering weight reduction over traditional wheels while also delivering more road vibration absorption, which is transformed into heat and more easily dissipated.

I have been asking around for a while and cannot find the answer to the question, “How much lighter will Mag wheels be?” Would love to know.
