The first time that Cadillac Society reported that Cadillac was working on a small, sub-Lyriq battery electric Cadillac crossover SUV was in March 2022. Then, an entire 15 months later, we spied a prototype undergoing testing. Earlier this month, the luxury marque revealed the Cadillac Optiq in North America, albeit with no particulars or specs. Now, the Optiq has been introduced overseas for the Chinese market.
The Optiq crossed the stage for the first time at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, also known as the Guangzhou Auto Show, held annually in China. It joins the Cadillac Lyriq, Cadillac Escalade IQ and Cadillac Celestiq as the fourth battery electric Cadillac offered in the Asian country.
The Lyriq’s introduction in China isn’t all that surprising considering that the electric luxury crossover’s design was leaked there earlier this year. The model will be produced in China as part of Cadillac’s joint venture in the country, as well as in North America for other markets.
“The world unveil of the all-new Cadillac Optiq represents our full commitment to further expand the IQ EV family and pivot to an all-electric future,” said Vice President of Cadillac China, Tim Heile. “As the world’s largest EV market, China is strategically important for Cadillac. By the end of next year, Cadillac will introduce more new EVs in China as the brand strives to fulfill customers’ diverse preferences and reinvent luxury mobility.”
While Cadillac has yet to reveal any sort of Optiq specifications, we do know that it will ride on a smaller variant of the BEV3 platform, the dedicated architecture that currently underpins both the Lyriq and Celestiq. It is expected to become available for purchase in China in early 2024, although pricing information has not yet been revealed.
