Cadillac Teases Project GTP Race Car Ahead Of Its Reveal

The Cadillac Project GTP race car is poised to make its IMSA debut for the 2023 racing season, and the luxury marque released what is likely the final teaser image of the machine before its reveal on June 9th.

In the teaser image, we can see the racer’s front headlight affixed to the front fascia via a bird’s eye angle. The headlight sports Cadillac’s signature vertical LED lighting elements, while the fascia features a carbon fiber front splitter and front fender with a cutaway right down to the racing slick. From this angle, it appears that the carbon fiber splitter and the roof carry a starlight-like pattern of spattered gold, a color that could be carried by the bronze wheels we’ve seen on past teaser images.

This new Project GTP race car will replace the existing Cadillac DPi-V.R, which is currently fielded by the luxury marque in the IMSA series and will be retired at the end of the season. The new race car will compete in the newly formed GTP class, along with competition in the FIA WEC in its Hypercar class. Dallara will continue to supply the carbon fiber chassis, and it will be powered by an internal combustion engine developed by Earnhardt Childress Racing Engines. That engine will work in conjunction with a mandated GTP common hybrid system, which is supplied by the sanctioning body to ensure fair competition across the board.

The new Project GTP race car will make its on-track debut at the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans, making the luxury marque’s return to the iconic endurance race after being absent from the event for nearly 21 years. The last time a Cadillac started at Le Mans was back in 2002 with the Cadillac Northstar LMP prototype machine, which was part of a program that lasted only two years.
