More Than 1,800 Cadillac Lyriq Reservations Have Been Made In Canada

Approximately 1,800 reservations have been placed for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq in Canada, Cadillac Society learned during a recent meeting with the luxury marque’s representatives in the local market.

Recently, the luxury marque indicated that 17,000 individual “hand raisers” in Canada expressed interest in the battery electric luxury crossover. Of them, 1,800 customers put $100 down to secure a reservation for the Lyriq, which is fully refundable. Considering that electric vehicle acceptance in Canada has been relatively low, these numbers indicate that a healthy amount of customers in the Canadian market are interested in the Lyriq. Another noteworthy data point is that there are currently 118 Cadillac dealers in Canada.

The Cadillac Lyriq recently began production on March 21st, 2022, at the Spring Hill assembly plant in Tennessee. In the U.S., reservations for the initial units of the Lyriq, known as Debut Edition models, sold out in just under 10 minutes. Cadillac did not indicate how many reservations were made.

Riding on the new BEV3 platform, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition features a proprietary 100.4 kWh lithium-ion Ultium battery pack and a single Ultium Drive motor mounted on the rear axle. The electric driveline is rated at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, and Cadillac estimates the Lyriq will have 300 miles of range on a full charge.  It is offered exclusively with a rear-wheel-drive configuration.

Cadillac recently announced that a high-performance variant, currently known as the Lyriq Performance AWD variant, is on the way, and will become available in early 2023. While full specs haven’t been made public, we expect it to be more powerful than the Debut Edition models thanks to the addition of a front mounted motor and all-wheel-drive.

Deliveries of the Debut Edition models will soon commence. As soon as they do, order books will open for subsequent models on May 19th, 2022. Initially, Cadillac planned to execute a second wave of reservations, much like it did for the Lyriq Debut Edition. Instead, the luxury marque elected to forgo it, immediately opening order books due to the sheer amount of interest in the Lyriq.

  1. Great way to limit the number of cars they can sell.

    • Because their goal is to sell less, not more… right?!
