The first Cadillac Blackwing ultra-high-performance luxury sedans to come off the production line raised large amounts of money for charity at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona this Thursday, March 25th.

The 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and 2022 CT5-V Blackwing sold at the auction have the VIN number 001. The winning bidders can select the interior and exterior colors, and any other options which they find appealing. These include the 10-speed automatic transmission (in place of the standard six-speed manual supplied by Tremec), magnesium wheels and, in the case of the CT5-V Blackwing, a Brembo carbon-ceramic brake package.

It’s important to note here that these cars do not yet exist. Production of the Cadillac Blackwing models at the Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan is not due to start until July 5th, 2021. What was sold at Scottsdale was the rights to own the vehicles once they have been assembled.

The earliest production Cadillac Blackwing cars could not be described as bargains. In fact, they may prove to be the most expensive ever sold. CT4-V Blackwing VIN 001 went for $165,000, while the winning bid for CT5-V Blackwing VIN 001 was $265,000. For regular customers, pricing starts at $59,990 (CT4-V Blackwing) and $84,990 (CT5-V Blackwing). If every single available option is chosen, the cars cost $84,875 and $121,895 respectively.

The entire hammer price for both vehicles was donated to the Black Ambition charity. Black Ambition is a non-profit initiative which aims to close the opportunity and wealth gaps through entrepreneurship, investing capital and resources in high-growth start-ups founded by black and Latinx entrepreneurs.

It’s likely that the new owners of the cars sold at auction will take the opportunity to load them with options. However, even if they don’t, these are still formidable vehicles. The CT4-V Blackwing has a twin-turbocharged 3.6L V6 gasoline engine (production code LF4) which produces 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. The CT5-V Blackwing is fitted with a supercharged 6.2L V8 motor (production code LT4) rated at 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque, and is the most powerful production vehicle in Cadillac history.
