Though Cadillac has decided to scale back its plans to go all-electric by 2030, the luxury marque is still taking steps to phase out gasoline-powered vehicles in Europe. That means that the Cadillac XT4 luxury crossover is no longer being sold in the region as the luxury marque transitions to a battery electric lineup overseas.
The XT4 debuted in Europe back in 2020 before going on sale later that year. Under the hood, the Euro-spec XT4 harnesses the turbodiesel 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSQ). The engine, available exclusively in the European market, is rated at 174 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired exclusively with the luxury marque’s nine-speed automatic transmission. As previously reported by Cadillac Society, the luxury marque had no plans to bring that turbodiesel stateside, meaning that the discontinuation of the XT4 in Europe means that the engine will likely be killed off as well.
As we mentioned above, the discontinuation of the Euro-spec XT4 aligns with Cadillac’s mission to offer a fully electric lineup overseas. These plans are spearheaded by the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq, which has already been introduced in Switzerland, Sweden, France, and, most recently, Germany. Cadillac could sell several other Cadillac EVs in the region, including the Cadillac Optiq, Cadillac Vistiq, and Cadillac Escalade IQ.
It’s also worth noting that production of the refreshed XT4 for North America will be idled for most of the 2025 calendar year at the Cadillac Fairfax plant in Kansas. The facility will be retooled in order to support the production of the another product offered by Cadillac parent company, General Motors. That product is the next-generation Chevy Bolt EV.
Once tooling is complete, the assembly of the XT4 will resume alongside its all-electric corporate cousin. In other words, while assembly of the XT4 will be down for most of next year, the luxury crossover is not being discontinued in North America.
