Cadillac XT4 Officially Announced For Europe With Diesel Engine

The Cadillac XT4 has just been officially announced in Europe, exactly one year after its launch in China and in the United States. The compact Cadillac crossover SUV will launch in the old continent next year, with two versions available at launch as well as a new turbo-diesel, four-cylinder engine designed exclusively for the European market – an engine that Cadillac Society exclusively reported on earlier this year.

The Cadillac XT4 represents one of the most vital releases in the brand’s history in Europe. Not only will it be the most accessible vehicle in the Cadillac range, but its segment is also the fastest-growing across the continent.

All-New Turbo Diesel Engine

As we report exclusively at the beginning of the year, the Cadillac XT4 is introduced in Europe with an all-new turbo diesel engine developed exclusively for the European market. Displacing 2.0 liters, the inline four-cylinder offers an estimated 170 horsepower and up to 380 Nm (280 pound-feet) of torque. It is mated with the latest 9-speed automatic transmission.

The new Cadillac Diesel engine is compatible with the latest Euro 6d emission standards.

Despite the negative image diesel engines has had globally thanks to emissions cheating and the ensuing shift to electrified engines, Cadillac executives expect that diesel engines will continue to play a dominant role in the European automotive business for the foreseeable future, especially in the utility and pickup segments.

In fact, more than half of all SUVs currently sold in Europe feature a diesel engine. This will not change in the short or medium term, as diesel engines combine powerful performance with frugal fuel consumption, all while meeting stringent CO2 emission limits.

Two Versions

The Cadillac XT4 will initially be available in Europe in two different versions – called Launch Edition and Launch Edition Sport:

  • XT4 Launch Edition: available only in front-wheel drive, the model rides on 18-inch aluminum wheels. The front grille, roof rails, lower fascia and window surround moldings are finished in satin aluminum silver metallic.
  • XT4 Launch Edition Sport: available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with a twin-clutch system, the model rides on 20-inch aluminum wheels and features a sport-model grille, clear-lens LED tail lights, sport steering wheel, and aluminum sport pedals. The roof rails, lower fascia and window surround moldings are finished in gloss black.

Both models include an extensive list of technologies and safety equipment. In addition, customers can can add the optional Premium package for a higher level of luxury inside the cabin. This package includes a panoramic roof with an electric shade, ventilated front seats with massage function, leather upholstery with perforated inserts, plus a selection of three (on the Launch Edition) and two (on the Launch Edition Sport) colors for the cabin.

It would appear as if the Launch Edition is equivalent to the Premium Luxury model while the Launch Edition Sport is congruent to the Sport model on the Cadillac Y trim level strategy.

Price And Availability

The Cadillac XT4 will go on sale in major European countries in early 2020. Cadillac is accepting first orders in Germany, where the compact crossover costs 42,900 euros ($47,000 USD) for the Launch Edition and 49,200 euros ($53,900 USD) for the Launch Edition Sport version.

  2. I think it would be a great alternative for the Jaguar E-pace and the Volvo XC40. Make sure people in European countries know it’s for sale though. You know, advertising and stuff…
