Fix Released For Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Trunks Opening On Their Own

Cadillac has released a Customer Satisfaction Program to address an issue with certain units of the 2024 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, as the super sedan’s trunk may pop open by itself without input.

Specifically, certain units of the 2024 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing outfitted with the Carbon Fiber 2 Package (production code CF2) may have a condition where the trunk opens by itself at unwanted times. In order to fix this problem, a technician will inspect affected vehicles and reprogram the body control module, which will prevent the trunk latch from disengaging on its own in the future. Additionally, owners of affected models will be given a $100 reimbursement check for their troubles.

It’s likely that this issue is related to the Hands-Free Trunklid Release (production code TL3) feature, which is only available as part of the Platinum Package (production code PCJ) or Parking Package (production code Y6L) offered on the CT5 Premium Luxury, Sport and CT5-V. This feature is also available for the CT5-V Blackwing, as it’s included in the aforementioned Parking Package, although it is deleted for models equipped with the Carbon Fiber 2 Package.

As such, it’s likely that some CT5-V Blackwing super sedans with the Carbon Fiber 2 Package were shipped with the Hands-Free Trunklid Release feature intact, causing the issue with the trunks opening without input. At this time, it’s not clear how many units of the 2024 CT5-V Blackwing are affected by this issue.

Production of the 2024 model year CT5 range commenced in July at the Lansing Grand River plant. Pricing for the super sedan starts at $94,890 with the standard six-speed manual transmission, while opting for the optional 10-speed automatic bumps the starting price to $98,065.
