Cadillac Racing To Field One Hypercar Entry In 2024 WEC Season

Cadillac Racing will once again compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar class with a single full-time entry in 2024, according to a recent report from Sportscar365.

GM Motorsports competition engineering director, Mark Stielow, confirmed that Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) will field a single Cadillac Racing V-Series.R race car in the FIA WEC next year. There has been talk around the garage that the organization might choose to field a second entry, although Stielow said the team ultimately decided against it due to the high cost of maintaining two race cars.

“We’re going to have one car in the WEC next year, mainly just due to some cost constraints of this platform,” Stielow said. “That’s how we ended up.”

Currently, Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Richard Westbrook tag-team driving duties for Cadillac Racing in the WEC. The team is currently in fifth place in overall points standings with one race remaining for the 2023 racing season. The team got off to a decent start early, claiming three consecutive top-five results and finishing third in the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year, recovering from a spinout due to a wet racetrack.

At this time, CGR hasn’t announced its driver roster for the 2024 racing season, but Bamber, Lynn and Westbrook are all expected to return.

The first outing for Cadillac Racing in the WEC this year was at the 24 Hours of Daytona, where the No. 02 V-Series.R finished fourth after a quietly successful race. CGR has not yet indicated if it will compete in the 2024 running of the event, however.

Meanwhile, Cadillac Racing will once again field two V-Series.R race cars in the IMSA SportsCar WeatherTech Championship in 2024. Though the full driver lineup has yet to be confirmed, Renger van der Zande and Sebastien Bourdais are likely to return, as they have multiyear contracts lined up with Action Express Racing.
