Cadillac XT6 Best Upper Midsize Premium SUV In 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

The Cadillac XT6 was recognized as the best Upper Midsize Premium SUV in its class, according to results gathered in the the 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study.

J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study examines initial vehicle quality based on owner satisfaction in nine focus areas: infotainment, features, controls and displays, exterior, driving assistance, interior, powertrain, seats, driving experience, and climate. Participants are surveyed in the early stages of ownership, after which results are calculated and each individual vehicle is granted a Problems Per 100 (PP100) score, with lower scores representing higher-quality vehicles, and higher scores indicating a vehicle that had more problems.

Cadillac XT6 owners indicated that they did not experience many problems with their luxury crossover in the initial stages of ownership, meaning that the XT6 scored low on the PP100 scale. It outranked both the BMW X6 and BMW X5, which were scored second and third respectively, meaning that Cadillac’s largest crossover outperformed two of its key rivals in its competitive segment

As a whole, Cadillac performed well in this year’s study. The luxury marque scored third in the Premium segment, with a total of 163 problems per 100 vehicles reported. This score was also good enough to land Cadillac in eighth overall out of 33 auto brands surveyed. This is a considerable improvement over Cadillac’s previous performance in the study, in which it was ranked 22nd overall. It’s worth noting that Buick, Cadillac’s corporate cousin under the General Motors umbrella, was recognized as the brand with the best score across the board of 139 PP100.

This year’s Initial Quality Study yielded the worst results ever measured in its 36-year history. The average was 180 problems per 100 vehicles, a result of the ongoing strain of supply shortages across the automotive industry as a whole.  Compared with 2021 results, the automotive industry experienced an 11 percent increase in PP100.
