Cadillac GTP Undergoing Testing At Sebring Raceway: Video

The new Cadillac GTP hypercar turned its first laps at Sebring Raceway this week alongside Porsche, taking to the track so engineers could gather valuable data ahead of its IMSA debut. Now, a video has popped up showing the prototype race car as it tackled a series of chicanes around the Florida racetrack.

Though Cadillac pulled the veil off its new prototype race car last month, this video represents the first real-life look at the machine under racing conditions, giving us our first look at how the Cadillac GTP sounds like at race speed. The machine features a naturally-aspirated dual overhead cam 5.5L V8 engine, which howls with a healthy rumble as the race car dives through the turns. Paired with the GTP common hybrid system, which is capable of 67 horsepower, that race-tuned eight-cylinder will produce approximately 680 horsepower, depending on Balance of Performance regulations. All that power is routed through the rear wheels by way of an Xtrac sequential gearbox. The hybrid electric battery is supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering.

The new Cadillac GTP race car rides on the Dallara P217 LMP2 chassis, same as its predecessor, the Cadillac DPi-V.R. While the test vehicle seen here features the bodywork that will make it ways to the competition-ready race car, it does not sport headlights or taillights.

The man behind the wheel of this test vehicle was Earl Bamber, who is currently employed by the Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing stable. His stint behind the wheel marks just the first test in a rigorous six-month schedule before the Cadillac GTP makes it competition debut at Daytona International Speedway for the 24 Hours of Daytona.
