Back in March, Cadillac announced that it will soon introduce all-wheel-drive version of the Cadillac Lyriq. This model would feature a second Ultium Drive motor, positioned at the front axle, lending the electric crossover higher levels of grip and extra levels of performance to boot. Now, the luxury marque has confirmed that the upcoming Lyriq Performance AWD model will be capable of approximately 500 horsepower.
According to a recent Instagram Q&A session hosted on the luxury marque’s official account, Cadillac responded that the high-performance all-wheel-drive model would have approximately 500 horses on tap.
That’s substantially more than the rear-wheel-drive 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, which features a proprietary 100.4 kWh lithium-ion Ultium battery pack and a single Ultium Drive motor mounted on the rear axle. The electric driveline in the regular model is rated at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, and is capable of 312 miles of range from a full charge. In other words, the second motor in the AWD model will add 140 horsepower to the 340 horses delivered by the rear motor.
As Cadillac Society was first to report, the Lyriq will be capable of towing at maximum of 3,500 pounds, the same as the internal combustion engine-powered Cadillac XT5. In fact, the towing capacity will be the same between the Lyriq in RWD and AWD forms.
Pricing for the Cadillac Lyriq, which is Cadillac’s first fully-electric model, starts at $59,990. While the initial units, known as the Lyriq Debut Edition, are all spoken for, order books for subsequent models will open in just a few short weeks on May 19th. While Cadillac has yet to share pricing info for the Lyriq Performance AWD model, we do know that it will go into production at the end of the 2022 calendar year before launching in early 2023.
