2021 Cadillac CT5 Receives Consumer Guide Best Buy Award

The 2021 Cadillac CT5 sedan has been named a Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy, which is the highest ranking that the car buying research publication gives out.

The Cadillac CT5 was one of three cars that were named a Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy in the Premium Midsize Cars category, joining the 2021 Lexus ES and 2021 Acura TLX.

Consumer Guide says that the 2021 Cadillac CT5 offers “athletic handling, crisp styling, and an impressive selection of available technology features at prices that handily undercut its European competitors,” which helped convince them it deserved a Best Buy award.

The sedan’s bargain pricing was the key to it receiving the Best Buy award, with jurors applauding Cadillac’s ability to offer “competitive space, power, and upscale style at bottom-line prices” with its latest line of luxury sedans.

Just like any vehicle, there were some shortcomings of the 2021 Cadillac CT5 that Consumer Guide Automotive notes. Its panel of experts found that some of the interior materials were “a bit disappointing for a luxury-brand car,” and they also noted the base four-cylinder engine “isn’t particularly powerful for the class.”

As a reminder, the base four-cylinder engine in the 2021 Cadillac CT5 is a 2.0L turbocharged engine (production code LSY) which produces 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The optional engine on offer in the CT5 Premium Luxury, a twin-turbo 3.0L V6 (production code LGY), is more powerful, producing 335 horsepower and 400 pound-feet torque.

The publication also noted the CT5 lineup “doesn’t have an ultra-high-performance model just yet,” but acknowledged that the CT5-V Blackwing is on its way in 2021. This ultra-high-performance sedan is expected to feature a supercharged V8 engine producing 650 horsepower, along with a 10-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual.

Consumer Guide’s experts drive over 150 vehicles throughout the year before deciding the winners of its Best Buy awards. These awards aim to identify the most impressive and best-performing vehicles on sale today, but more importantly, they must also represent good value compared to other vehicles in the same segment.
