Cadillac Crossover Sales Grow Significantly In Q4 2019

Cadillac crossover sales increased rather substantially during the fourth quarter of 2019, with sales up in all trackable markets, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, and Russia.

The results come just as the luxury brand has launched the all-new XT4 and XT6, as well as the refreshed-for-2020 XT5, in the U.S. and Canada, while preparing to launch the XT4 and XT5 in other global markets.

United States

In the United States, sales of Cadillac crossovers increased 29 percent to 27,232 units during the quarter, with all nameplates except for the XT5 seeing growth in sales volume.

The XT4 saw a 17 percent growth rate to 8,895 units, the XT5 saw an 18 percent contraction to 11,168 units, and the XT6 recorded 7,169 deliveries. Though the XT5 appears to be getting squeeze from both ends by the XT4 and XT6, the midsize crossover is still recording healthy sales volumes as it remains the brand’s best-seller. Coronavirus impacts notwithstanding, we expect XT5 sales to improve in the medium term as a result of broader availability of the refreshed 2020 model.

Looking Ahead

Going forward, we expect Cadillac crossover sales to continue increasing as a result of improved availability and more attractive incentives. There appears to be opportunity for growth in all three segments that Cadillac currently competes in with its crossovers, including the Luxury C-SUV segment (XT4), Luxury D-SUV segment (XT5) and Luxury E-SUV segment (XT6). In fact, we would not be surprised to see Cadillac boost production capacity of one, two or all three models.

However, the luxury automaker’s crossover sales volume will face headwinds, the most prominent of which is the global Coronavirus pandemic, which will all but certainly have a negative impact on sales during the first quarter of 2020. The virus is also creating various economic problems, including significant downward trends in the stock market. Even so, we do expect these situation to stabilize in the near- to medium-term future.

  1. You’re not kidding about “downward trends in the stock market”. I think this has a strong effect on sales of upper market vehicles. When one is 25% poorer than last month it does cause one to reevaluate all but he most essential purchases.

Let’s hope we can all pull together as a people and reduce its spread before more significant damage is done to our economy.
