The current-generation Cadillac XT5 may be on its way out, but it’s still a consideration for new car buyers. As a luxury crossover, it delivers a higher ride height and more cargo space than a traditional sedan, like the CT5. And, when properly equipped, the XT5 also delivers a higher towing capacity than the CT5.

Specifically, the Cadillac XT5 can tow up to 1,000 pounds – the same as the Cadillac CT5 sedan – when not equipped with the optional towing package. But that capacity grows to 3,500 pounds when equipping the XT5 with the optional, naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 and the available Smart Towing Package, which is only available for Premium Luxury models and standard for Sport models (both of which feature all-wheel drive as standard).
To clarify, these figures are applicable only to the current, first-generation Cadillac XT5. Meanwhile, the second-generation XT5 is expected for the 2027 model year, but it’s currently unclear whether that model’s towing capacities will remain the same or change. As of this writing, the luxury marque has not yet confirmed which hardware the new XT5 will feature under its hood.
There is a possibility that the same engine options carry over, including the 2.0-liter turbo-four and aforementioned V6. Another possibility is that the newer, larger 2.5-liter turbo-four will find its way under the hood of the second-gen XT5.
Meanwhile, a plug-in hybrid model has been spied recently. It utilizes a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a 165 kW electric motor. However, it’s more likely that a pure-internal combustion model will launch before the PHEV.

Glad to read about the advent of the second generation xt5 coming in 2027. Now is a good time to reintroduce a 2027 xt6 with the v6 engine. I have owned both the xt5 and xt6, and both are great, capable vehicles. My wife prefers the xt6 for its room and versatility, and we would like to buy another. Our favorite model is the sport. We have no interest in an ev.
