Zhou Guanyu Joins Cadillac F1 Team Roster As Reserve Driver

The Cadillac F1 Team has announced the addition of Zhou Guanyu to its roster as a reserve driver. Guanyu is now the fourth driver to make the cut, joining Sergio “Checo” Pérez and Valtteri Bottas along with test driver Colton Herta. Notably, Guanyu previously raced alongside Valtteri Bottas during their time together at Sauber.

During his tenure with Sauber, which lasted from 2022 through 2024, Guanyu made 68 Grand Prix starts and in addition to Bottas he also worked alongside Cadillac Formula 1 team principal Graeme Lowdon. As such, he feels that joining this team makes perfect sense.

“I have worked with both Graeme and Valtteri for many years in various capacities, so joining the team feels like rejoining family,” Guanyu said.

As a reserve driver, Guanyu will likely assist in test driving as the team refines the development and tuning of competition vehicles. Speaking of competition vehicles, the team is gearing up to unveil its official livery in less than a month, and has recently pulled the wraps off its testing livery, which it will flaunt during the Shakedown Week in Barcelona at the end of January.

The Cadillac F1 team’s debut season has felt been a long time coming, and excitement is certainly mounting now that it’s just around the corner. We’ve covered the major milestones along the way, including the unveiling of its official logo and the announcing of Tommy Hilfiger as its first official brand partner. Of course, the team’s path to racing certainly wasn’t easy due to various bureaucratic obstacles, though some executives now believe Cadillac’s involvement in F1 racing will make it even more lucrative for other teams, including McLaren American Chief Executive Zak Brown.

In an attempt to capture and portray this journey to the starting grid, actor and filmmaker Keanu Reeves is spearheading the production of a new docuseries that focuses on the team’s development.
