Cadillac Optiq Sees New Performance AWD System For 2026 Model Year

The Cadillac Optiq sees a few rather significant updates for its second model year. In addition to the launch of the high-performance Optiq-V and the introduction of a RWD-only variant, the luxury EV crossover is also getting a new performance all-wheel drive (pAWD) system.

To clarify, the introduction of the RWD and pAWD systems replace the single AWD system, which was standard on the 2025 Optiq, where it made 300 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Furthermore, the new pAWD is rear-wheel-drive biased, which should provide a more dynamic driving experience. To reach this goal, Cadillac swapped the rear induction motor out for a permanent-magnet one.

Switching to a permanent-magnet motor extracted nearly 50 percent more power compared to the induction motor used by the 2025 model. Even more impressive is the fact that the luxury marque was able to achieve this power bump without impeding the Optiq’s range much.

Although the exact range for the new pAWD setup has not yet been released, it’s likely more than the 275-mile range on the Optiq-V, which has a range that’s 25 miles lower than the 2025 Cadillac Optiq. For reference, the Cadillac-estimated range for the Optiq is still 300 miles, though that figure applies to the new RWD model. All Optiq models, including the Optiq-V, use the same 85 kWh battery and feature a native NACS port, giving customers access to over 21,500 fast charging options across North America.

Other improvements to the 2026 Cadillac Optiq include upgraded hardware for the Vision Enhanced Parking feature as well as enhancements to Super Cruise, such as the integration of the correct lane navigation function in Google Maps.
