The 2024 Cadillac XT4 received a mid-cycle refresh consisting of an updated fascia and an overhauled cockpit with the luxury marque’s large 33-inch curved display. The smallest crossover can also tow a modest amount when properly equipped. Below, Cadillac Society breaks down the towing capacities for the luxury crossover.
Before diving in, let’s revisit the 2024 XT4 powertrain. The luxury crossover is offered with a single engine: the turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY). The boosted gasoline four-cylinder is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to the nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is standard while all-wheel-drive is optional.
Additionally, the optional Towing Package (production code V92) bundles a handful of towing accessories for the 2024 XT4, including a two-inch hitch receiver, a seven-wire harness and a heavy-duty cooling system.
In the following table, we’ve outlined the 2024 Cadillac XT4 towing capacities.

- Optional Trailering Package (production code V92)
Without the Towing Package, the XT4 is rated to haul 2,000 pounds, regardless of trim level. Adding the optional package bumps the luxury crossover’s towing capacity to 2,750 pounds in Luxury and Premium Luxury guise, while the Sport trim can handle up to 3,500 pounds with proper equipment.
In order to tow safely with the 2024 XT4, Cadillac recommends using 91 octane or premium fuel. While 87 octane or regular fuel can be used, the luxury marque notes that the XT4 may exhibit decreased performance and drivability. However, it’s critical to note that at least 89 octane fuel should be used while towing, or engine damage can occur. Additionally, the XT4 can tow in Drive, but if the driver finds that the transmission downshifts too often, a lower gear can be chosen by selecting Manual mode.
Finally, there are a number of features and technologies that Cadillac recommends disabling prior to pulling a trailer, including:
- Park Assist
- Reverse Automatic Braking
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking
- Lane Change Alert
- Adaptive Cruise Control (unless the vehicle is equipped with trailering functionality)
- Super Cruise (unless the vehicle is equipped with trailering functionality)
As a reminder, the refreshed 2024 Cadillac XT4 rides on the E2 platform, and production kicked off in April 2023 at the Cadillac Fairfax plant in Kansas City.
