Cadillac Vistiq Had A Different Name Prior To Debut

At the end of 2023, Cadillac pulled the veil from the all-new Cadillac Vistiq, a three-row electric luxury crossover that will slot between the Lyriq and Escalade IQ in the luxury marque’s EV portfolio. While two-syllable “Vistiq” name fits right in with the luxury marque’s IQ naming convention for its EVs, the moniker wasn’t the originally-planned name for the model.

Sources familiar with the matter tell Cadillac Society that the original name planned for the vehicle that we know as the Vistiq today was Cadillac Symboliq. The luxury marque ‘s parent company, General Motors, filed to trademark “Symboliq” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in mid-2020. However, the filing was dropped almost a year later, with no indication the automaker was interested in pursuing it any further. A few months later, the Vistiq trademark application was filed.

As a reminder, the Cadillac Vistiq is the fifth vehicle to join the luxury marque’s EV family after the Lyriq, Celestiq, Escalade IQ and Optiq. Thus far, the Vistiq’s specs, including powertrain, performance, pricing, and other details, have not been announced. However, the two Vistiq images released by Cadillac at the end of 2023 show a 600E4 badge on the liftgate. In the North American market Cadillac Lyriq, the 600E4 badge represents a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup making 610 Nm (450 pound-feet) of torque and a healthy 500 horsepower.

While we don’t know specifics regarding the Cadillac Vistiq, it does appear to feature similar proportions as the Cadillac XT6, and that it has three rows of seats, making it a good choice for families in the market for an electric vehicle who may not be interested in something as large as the Escalade IQ.
