For years, Cadillac has been developing its Ultium Batteries and Ultium Drive Motors for its planned onslaught of battery electric vehicles. The first result of that development was the Cadillac Lyriq, which launched for the 2023 model year. With the massive performance potential brought about by electric powertrains, coupled with a storied history of the V-Series sub-brand spanning two decades, it was only a matter of time before a Cadillac V-Series model came to life with a battery electric heart.
During a recent media briefing attended by Cadillac Society, Cadillac confirmed that it will reveal an electric V-Series vehicle during the 2024 calendar year. While a specific model was not mentioned, all roads lead us to the Cadillac Lyriq-V.
Cadillac Society has been reporting on the Lyriq-V since April 2021, starting with comments made by then-Cadillac chief Rory Harvey. When asked about giving the Lyriq the V-Series treatment, Harvey responded, “If you look to Cadillac in the past, having sporty variants has been part of our heritage and we understand that there is a need and a desire and that is something that we’re looking at and evaluating looking forward.”
Then in March 2023, Cadillac Society exclusively reported that the Lyriq-V would build on the existing Sport trim level, meaning that it would feature dark exterior accents, a unique front fascia with a unique lower grille and crosshatched mesh, a unique lower rear fascia, a set of large, sporty wheels, and the requisite V-Series badging. New developments came in May 2023, when Cadillac Society learned that the Lyriq-V would be more powerful than the Lyriq AWD, the most powerful variant on sale to date. Specifically, the Lyriq AWD produces 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque via its dual-motor drivetrain. As of this writing, it’s anticipated that the Lyriq-V will meet or exceed the numbers of its corporate cousin and platform mate, the Chevy Blazer EV SS, which is rated at 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque.
In addition to more power and torque, we also expect the Lyriq-V to feature a set of fixed Brembo brake calipers (as opposed to the sliding-caliper system in the “regular” Lyriq model), delivering superior stopping performance. A Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension system is expected to replace the passive dampers in the “regular” Lyriq models to deliver better handling, damping, and overall agility. The upgraded chassis would work in tandem with an expected summer tire package.
Finally, Cadillac Society has learned of two appearance packages that would be available exclusively on the V-Series variant of the Lyriq. The Exterior Appearance Package will feature a front splitter, rear fascia valance and rocker extensions finished in Gloss Black, while the Exterior Carbon Fiber package would finish the aforementioned parts in – as the name implies – carbon fiber.
