The Cadillac Spring Hill plant, located in Tennessee, was offline for an additional week following the regular week-long Christmas break, halting production of the Cadillac XT5, Cadillac XT6 and Cadillac Lyriq for a total of two weeks.
All plants owned by Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, were idled during the week of December 25th, 2023, in observance of the holidays. However, the Spring Hill plant remained offline until January 8th, 2024, allowing the automaker to perform scheduled maintenance at the facility before resuming operations. Spring Hill joined the Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan, which was also idled during the first week of January, pausing production of the CT4 and CT5 luxury sedans.
As a reminder, the Cadillac XT5 was slated to be overhauled (redesigned and re-engineered) in 2024, but this was subsequently canceled for the North American market. As such, the first-generation model will continue to be produced without any major updates or changes through the 2024 and possibly the 2025 model years, at which point the luxury crossover will be discontinued in North America. The redesigned model will, however, be sold in China.
In a similar vein, the Cadillac XT6 has not yet received an expected midcycle refresh, potentially signaling its discontinuation in the North American market. The current XT6 has not changed much since its debut for the 2020 model year, receiving only minor updates throughout its lifecycle.
Meanwhile, the outlook for the Cadillac Lyriq electric luxury crossover looks bright. For the 2024 model year, the Lyriq gained a completely revamped trim level lineup, which now consists of the new base Tech trim, Luxury, and Sport. Like the 2023 model, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq can be outfitted with either a single Ultium Drive motor on the rear axle, while a second Ultium Drive motor can be added to the front axle for an all-wheel-drive configuration that’s substantially more powerful.
