Cadillac Ranks Poorly In Consumer Reports Owner Satisfaction Study

Cadillac was scored low in the annual Consumer Reports owner satisfaction study, indicating that owners of the luxury marque’s products are not overly impressed with their vehicles. 

The publication compiled results from its 2022 Annual Auto Surveys, which gathered responses from over 300,000 owners of vehicles produced between the 2020 and 2022 model years. Some responses included vehicles from the 2023 model year that had not changed significantly over time. Owner satisfaction scores were calculated based on the number of owners that answered positively when asked if they would purchase the same vehicle again, taking into account pricing, performance, reliability, comfort and enjoyment. Automakers were then granted a score based on a 100-point scale.

All told, Cadillac ranked 24th out of 28 competitors, a result of its relatively low score of 59 in the study. It underperformed Jeep, which had a score of 63, but outperformed Nissan’s score of 59. Meanwhile, Infiniti was ranked at the very bottom of the list, having earned a score of 50 points. 

For comparison, Porsche was the highest-rated automaker on the list, earning 83 points, while Genesis followed in second with 80 points, and Tesla in third with 78 points. BMW and Subaru tied for fourth and fifth, each garnering 73 points. 

This isn’t the first time that Cadillac has posted a subpar result in a study performed by Consumer Reports over the last year. The luxury marque also disappointed in the publication’s reliability rankings last year, placing 17th out of 24 competitors as owners cited issues they’d experienced with its products. Additionally, Cadillac was ranked low in its overall automotive brand rankings just a few months ago, with most of its models earning low scores, aside from the Cadillac XT5 luxury crossover, which was the only vehicle recommended by the editors of Consumer Reports

  1. Another instance of Managerial Incompetence.. Hopefully the Lyriq most of us have been waiting for will be an improvement, but who knows?

    Bringing out models where little works right after having shoved all the Bells and whistles they can think of into them is quite obviously the wrong way to release cars..

    They should release the simplest vehicles first with stuff that has proven reliability. Not fill the car up with non-essential gobbledygook.

  2. I struggle when I receive articles like this purporting to show that Cadillacs are not quality vehicles. I’m currently on my third one and have owned 2CTSs and now an XTS. They have been exceptionally reliable and dependable cars and have cost me zero for repairs.

    When I compare my vehicles with owners of Lexus, Infiniti, BMW, Mercedes, and Audi, they marvel that I get hundreds of thousands of trouble free miles, while their vehicles have cost them significant amounts of money to keep on the road.

    Of course, it’s interesting that I’ve never been contacted in all these decades about my ownership of Cadillacs for any survey by anyone.

    • I agree with you Don. I’ve driven Cadillac since the 1980s. Despite only a few issues with the dreaded 4100 engine- which Cadillac replaced. Every one of my Cadillacs have been great vehicles. I’ve had BMWs, Audis, & Mercedes. All my BMWs & Audis cost me a fortune to keep on the road.

    • Same. My wife’s BMW has cost $13k in repairs during the same 100k miles where my CTS had cost $0. There’s no comparison really, the BMW can’t be trusted over 100k miles. The new CT5 I have is warrantied until 2028. Worry free ownership..Not sure who responds to these things.

      • I’m on my 5th Cadillac, (current model Escalade,) and other than regular maintenance- I’ve experienced exactly zero issues with any of the 5 caddy vehicles ranging in model years between 2007 and now.

  3. Apparently Cadillac is no longer the Standard of the World except, maybe, in China where, if reports are to be believed, business is brisk. Cadillac is but one brand of GM and though it is suppose to be(?) what I’ll refer to as the top of the line, that doesn’t appear to be the case when owners are polled. Sad. Suggest we save money and buy a Buick. Maybe less cache, but probably less cash, and just as reliable (or not) as Cadillac.

    • I have been waiting over a year for my heated steering wheel. After waiting a year for my car to be built and delivered to me. Wonder why their customer service is in the toilet?

  4. Maybe the problem of dealers adding $$$ over the sticker price is a large factor in owner dissatisfaction.

    • I learned how to drive at 15 in a Cadillac. I couldn’t wait to own my own. I’m in my third and have no problems in workmanship or performance. I will continue to purchase Cadillacs.
      I have never been asked buy a survey to give my opinion. I see I’m not alone.

  5. Hi. I.JUST LOOKING TO PURCHASE A ESED CT5 BLACKWING..2 TO 3 YEARS OLD FROM LOCAL CADY DEALERS. HOPEFULLY I CAN CHOOSE AN ELECTRIC OR HYBRID. PLEASE ADVISE.

  6. Mary Bara has “bet the farm” on a range of all electric vehicles that will be rolled out in the next five years which will be GM’s future.

    Unless she listens to what that survey says and takes effective action to change the existing culture of complacency within GM, it will languish at the bottom of the satisfaction list and she will be looking at an early retirement.

  8. Consumer Reports is the most unreliable source of automotive information in existence. Personally, I would recommend Edmund’s, Motortrend, Car and Driver, etc.

    • The fit and finish for a electric Cad is not up to the standard you would expect. Now the Chev version’s has what it takes and beat Caddy plus it is cheaper.

  9. Lousy quality and customer satisfaction on won’t be fixed by going electric. Lousy is lousy. Magazines testing the Lyrig have noted quality issues on cars they have tested. If GM can’t fix initial quality, why should they release it for testing and comparison comments? Cadillac made the excuse that the test vehicle was an early public release unit. That means they were selling crappy cars to the general public as well. So Caddy gets low marks, and they wonder why.

  11. I drive a 2019 XTS Luxury and it’s the most reliable car I have owned. Very nice ride,top notch interior, and not a week goes by where I don’t receive a compliment on the exterior look

  13. It’s called media propaganda! I have a 2018 ESV, drive it for Uber black 8-10 hrs daily I didn’t notice anything concerning beside the oil change and regular maintenance.

  14. My wife and I have owned 5 Cadillacs, 1995 Sedan DeVille, 1999 SLS, 3 Escalades (2004, 2013, 2023). No problems with any of them

  15. I just love it when articles refer to the Escalade V’s as costing $150,000.00 ~ NOT! Go try and buy one. The dealer will tack on between $30,000 & $50,000 above MSRP.

    Go try to purchase any of the new body Escalades – regardless of whether or not it’s a 2021, 2022, or 2023 – the dealer will add a significant premium above and beyond MSRP.

    Range Rover is even worse! The problem is – people pay it. Imagine buying a $150,000.00 car – and you bring $50,000.00 in $100 bills…. There’s a $50K premium. The dealer takes your fifty grand and the balance you still owe is the original $150,000.00 !?!

    Local dealership here adds $26,400 for all Platinum models.

    Oh what fun…
