Last week, Cadillac Society exclusively reported that the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing will receive a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year. Now, we’ve spotted a prototype of the forthcoming super sedan undergoing testing, giving us a first look at what’s on the way.
The 2024 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing will sport an updated front fascia design, with headlights that are similar to those seen on the first-generation, pre-refresh Cadillac CT6. As seen on this prototype, this headlight design includes uninterrupted vertical lighting strips, deviating from the split design seen on the current CT5-V Blackwing. The prototype also shows off the revised lower fascia, where the modified intakes are clearly visible, opening up the super sedan’s maw for a more aggressive outlook, and potentially better breathing.
It’s worth noting that the 2024 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing refresh aligns with updates on the way for the “regular” CT5 luxury sedan – such as the Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport trims. Cadillac Society previously spotted a prototype of the 2024 CT5 undergoing testing, and while there are similarities between that vehicle and this CT5-V Blackwing prototype, the Blackwing’s front end is sculpted to convey a more aggressive expression than that of its “regular” counterpart.
Beyond the lightly camouflaged front end, this 2024 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing prototype does not feature any major exterior changes to its profile, greenhouse, or rear end. In fact, it’s almost identical to the current, pre-refresh model out back, right down to the stepped C-pillar. This design choice has been controversial since the CT5 was introduced, as the luxury sedan has on occasion been criticized for the “cheap” look of this thick plastic element that some have said is reminiscent of a Honda Accord.
While not visible in these photos, the 2024 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing will also be outfitted with a completely refreshed interior with elements similar to that of the redesigned 2024 Cadillac XT4 and current Cadillac Lyriq. This will include the addition of a large display that will span the instrument panel and center stack.
Additionally, the 2024 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing represents the first time the luxury marque has refreshed a V-Series product. In the past, prior V-Series models soldiered on without any major changes throughout their lifespans, even when their “regular” counterparts received refreshes and updates.
The current Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is powered by the luxury marque’s supercharged 6.2L V8 (production code LT4) that’s tuned for 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque. That powerhouse connects to either the standard six-speed manual transmission or the optional 10-speed automatic, delivering power exclusively to the rear wheels. Production of the refreshed 2024 CT5 range, which will continue to ride on the Alpha 2 platform, is expected to commence at the Lansing Grand River plant in the summer of 2023.
