Cadillac Vehicles Are The Least Expensive To Maintain Over Ten-Year Period

Cadillac vehicles are among the cheapest to maintain over a decade of ownership, a recent study by Consumer Reports states.

The study was conducted by collecting responses from vehicle owners who were asked to keep a record of how much they paid for maintenance and repairs over a 12-month period. There was a significant difference in costs between a five-year-old model and a 10-year old model, as older vehicles require higher levels of maintenance over time. The average cost to maintain a five-year-old vehicle was $208, while owners of a 10-year-old vehicle reported a mean cost of $406.

Cadillac vehicles proved to be the least expensive to maintain over the course of five years, with an average of $106 spent on repairs and maintenance annually. After the vehicle reaches the 10-year-old mark, that cost rose to $225 annually. Cadillac’s low average maintenance and repair costs indicate that vehicles are less likely to need major repairs over the course of a decade, requiring relatively cheap maintenance services instead, such as oil changes and regular fluid maintenance.

The second-best performing luxury brand was Lincoln, with an average of $116 in annual maintenance costs once the vehicle was five years old, and $306 after the vehicle reaches 10 years of age. BMW ranked as the most expensive brand to maintain, with an average maintenance and repair costs of $206 annually after five years and a whopping $911 per year after 10 years.  Audi and Mercedes-Benz were within the top three most expensive vehicles to maintain, while Lexus ranked near the middle of the list.

Consumer Reports suggests that buyers in the market for a vehicle can save money by purchasing a pre-owned vehicle made by automakers with the lowest reported maintenance and repair costs. These vehicles will also have lower insurance and registration costs, further helping their owners save money.

  1. What a load of horse hockey this is. Any time you take your car to a dealer for just an oil change they always try to upsell you for unnecessary work costing in the hundreds.

    • I’ve owned 30+ cars since 1970 of every brand. I’m on my 3rd Cadillac and can attest to the truth of this article. Friends with Audis, Mercedes and BMWs pay dearly to keep their cars operational.

  2. I think your numbers are way out of date in actual dollar terms. I took a Mercedes SUV in for its annual maintenance one month ago. I owned the vehicle for 5 years. The annual inspection involves only fluid and filter changes. Total: $1,744. It has always been expensive but has become ridiculous the last few years. I was so upset I just bought an XT6. Like it a lot already.

  3. That’s why I order 10 qts. of Mobil 1 0W-40 and an AC Delco’s best UPF63R Filter for less than $75 for my CT6-V and I never have to leave my garage to be subjected to upsell. This the 4th Cadillac in a row I’ve bought since 2006 and they’ve all provided me with a very positive, low cost maintenance experience.
