Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, has issued a recall for certain units of the 2021 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV to address an issue with the luxury SUV’s daytime running lights (DRLs), which may fail to deactivate.
The problem: affected vehicles may have faulty daytime running lamps (DRLs) that may not deactivate when the headlights are turned on. Thus, the DRLs are noncompliant with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, which refers to “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
The hazards: DRLs that fail to deactivate when the headlights are on may cause glare for oncoming drivers, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: a dealership technician will update the body control module (BCM) software in affected units of the 2021 Cadillac Escalade. This update may be performed on-site at a dealer service center or via an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge to the vehicle owner.

Number of affected vehicles: GM indicated that a total of 740,108 vehicles are affected by this recall. It’s important to note that this number includes not only the 2021 Cadillac Escalade, but also other GM products that may have the same condition.
Next steps: Cadillac will notify owners of affected vehicles by mail. Letters will begin to mail out on January 23rd, 2023 for owners in the U.S.
