2024 Cadillac Lyriq Sport Spotted Without Grille Lights

For the 2024 model year, the Cadillac Lyriq is getting a more complete trim level lineup, which will include the introduction of the Lyriq Sport and Lyriq Premium Luxury to slot above the base Luxury trim offered currently. As previously reported by Cadillac Society, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Sport will get a unique “grille” LED pattern that will set it apart from the rest of the lineup, and we even spotted an example for the first time back in September. Now, Cadillac Society spotted another Lyriq Sport out and about, although this particular model is noticeably different compared to the models we’ve seen previously, since it lacks several grille lighting elements.

Since the Cadillac Lyriq is an electric vehicle, it has no need for an open front grille that allows air into an internal combustion engine (ICE). Instead, the fascia features a solid shield-like panel in the same spot where an ICE-powered vehicle would have its upper grille. In the Lyriq, this panel is illuminated by LEDs for some design flair.

The unique “grille” in Chinese-market Cadillac Lyriq Sport

However, this particular Lyriq Sport, which is painted in Stellar Black Metallic (paint code GB8), lacks the faux grille backlighting, which we have already seen on the 2024 Lyriq Sport in the Chinese market. Additionally, this particular luxury crossover features headlight bezels finished in chrome as opposed to the black bezels found on the Chinese model.

True to the Sport trim level, black trim can be found around the vehicle’s side windows, giving this unit a more sinister overall look. There’s also a set of black door handles and wheels with dark accents. This dark theme is carried through to the crossover’s rear, as the taillights have been darkened and feature a smoky-clear (Neutral Density) finish.

All that goes to say that we’re looking at a bit of a mystery here. Either this unit is a unique Lyriq trim level or package that Cadillac has yet to announce, or it’s a more basic version of the Lyriq Sport, perhaps without the performance AWD drivetrain.

As a reminder, the Lyriq rides on the luxury marque’s BEV3 platform, and is assembled at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee for all markets except for China. It is offered with two powertrains. The base single-motor setup that features one Ultium motor mounted on the rear axle, lending 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque for an estimated 312 miles of driving range. The second is is a dual-motor Performance AWD setup that produces over 500 horsepower.
