Families with young children must take child car seat installation into account when searching for a new vehicle, and a recent study named the 2022 Cadillac XT5 as one of the best vehicles on the market when it comes to accommodating child car seats.
The study, which was performed by Cars.com, studied the car seat fitment in 52 different vehicles hailing from the 2021 and 2022 model years to draw up its 2022 Car Seat Fit Report Card. The publication evaluated how well child car seats fit into each vehicle, along with the latch systems, lower anchors and top tether anchors. The editors note that ease of installation is critical to families with young children.
The 2022 Cadillac XT5 made the cut and was given an “A” across all of the study’s categories. Editors praised it for its easy-access latch anchors and ample leg room for passengers in the second row. The luxury crossover easily accommodated two car seats in its fitment test, prompting editors to grant it excellent grades across the board.
A number of luxury vehicles performed well in the study, including the 2021 and 2022 Audi Q5 Sportback and 2022 Acura RDX, both of which were also granted “A” scores across every category. The 2022 Kia EV6 also scored straight As, as did the 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan. The 2021 Ford Bronco, meanwhile, was scored with mostly Cs and Bs, making it one of the worst-rated vehicles evaluated, right next to the 2022 Volvo XC40 Recharge.
As a reminder, the Luxury and Premium Luxury trim levels of the 2022 Cadillac XT5 are powered by the turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY) as standard, which is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. These models wear the 350T badge on the liftgate. The naturally-aspirated 3.6L V6 engine (production code LGX), rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque, is optional on the Premium Luxury trim and standard on the Sport trim. These models can be identified by the 400 badge on the liftgate. Both engine options bolt to Cadillac’s nine-speed automatic transmission, and offer front-wheel-drive as standard or all-wheel-drive as an option. The Sport trim, however, features all-wheel-drive as standard.
