The luxury D-sedan segment saw cumulative sales expand 69 percent to 79,025 units during the second quarter of 2021.
Given its trailing position in the segment rankings and slip in market share, the CT5’s sales performance was disappointing, especially after the 46 percent increase during the first quarter of 2021. The sub-par performance during Q2 2021 is directly the result of sub-par inventory of the CT5 as a result of the ongoing microchip shortage. Cadillac is currently prioritizing chips for its Escalade full-size luxury SUV range, resulting in a pause in production of the CT5, among other models.
We expect Cadillac CT5 sales to start growing in the coming quarters as both inventory and consumer awareness of the model improve, enabling the new Caddy to obtain a more favorable position in the segment. Aiding that will be the all-new CT5-V Blackwing. The ultra-high-performance sedan was revealed in February and the very first units have already begun arriving at dealers.
However, the path forward won’t be easy, as several rivals will soon be completely overhauled, including the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which has traditionally presented a strong opponent for the CT5 as well as its segment predecessor – the ATS range.
One of four new colors for the 2025 model year.
And it now represents the best value in its segment.
A curious sighting from a video of the Cadillac design studio.
