Cadillac Blackwing Buyers Younger Than Those Of Regular Cadillacs

The Cadillac Blackwing super sedans deliver a healthy combination of high performance and luxury, both on the street and at the track. That being said, it should come as no surprise that the ultra-high-performance vehicles appeal to a younger thrill-seeking crowd. In fact, the median age of Blackwing customers is 10 years younger than that of “regular” Cadillacs.

That statistic comes right from Cadillac’s Chief Engineer, Tony Roma, who said that the high-performance V-Series family tends to attract a younger audience than the marque’s less sporty offerings.

“When you really get into [V-Series] and then what we’ve seen already with V-Blackwing is the average age is yet again lower,” Roma said in an interview on Jay Leno’s Garage. “When you get the V-Blackwing, it’s more than 10 years younger than the average Cadillac buyer that’s coming in and buying one of these [Blackwing sedans].”

According to a 2018 report from CarMax, a nationwide retailer of used cars, Cadillac tends to attract the oldest customer demographic in the automotive market. The median age of a Cadillac buyer is 47.1 year old, followed closely by the 45.6 years old at Buick, and 44.8 years old at Lexus. The data for the study was collected from CarMax vehicle purchases made from January 1st, 2017, through December 21st, 2017.

The upcoming Blackwing super sedans are no strangers to power. The 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is powered by the 3.6L twin-turbocharged V6 (production code LF4), rated at 472 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing features the supercharged 6.2L V8 (production code LT4), delivering a pavement-pounding 668 horsepower and 669 pound-feet of torque. Both engines bolt to either the standard 6-speed manual transmission or the optional 10-speed automatic, delivering power exclusively to the rear wheels.
