The 2021 Cadillac XT6 has received a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which is the highest safety rating the nonprofit organization hands out.
The 2021 Cadillac XT6 received the IIHS’ best-possible rating of ‘Good’ in all of its crashworthiness evaluations. Additionally, the crossover’s standard and optional front crash prevention technologies received the highest possible rating of ‘Superior’. The vehicle also received an ‘Average’ rating for the ease of use of its LATCH hardware for child seat attachments.
Headlights are one important area where Cadillac can improve with regard to the safety of the three-row crossover, however. Its headlights received a rating of ‘Average’ from the IIHS, as the low beams produce some glare for oncoming traffic and the high beams leave room for improvement with regard to left-hand side visibility.
The 2020 model year Cadillac XT6 was also rated a Top Safety Pick+, although GM had to make some improvements to the vehicle part way through the year in order for it to qualify for the coveted safety designation. These improvements included a redesigned passenger protection cell and different side curtain airbags.
Many of the XT6’s direct rivals have also received a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS for 2021, including the Acura RDX, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Volvo XC90.
Prices for the 2021 Cadillac XT6 start at $48,990 (including $995 destination charge) for the entry-level Luxury trim level with the standard turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine and front-wheel-drive. Stepping up to the mid-grade Premium Luxury model raises the price to $53,790 and also swaps the 2.0L turbo motor for a 3.6L V6 LGX. The range-topping Sport trim level, which also taps the 3.6L V6 engine, is priced from $58,190.
