Cadillac Issues Bulletin To Fix 2021 Escalade Airbag Light Issue

Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, has issued a Customer Satisfaction Program for the 2021 Escalade to address a possible issue regarding the seat-mounted side airbag, Cadillac Society has learned.

The program, which impacts both the standard Escalade and extended-length Escalade ESV, states that “driver movement can disrupt the electrical connection to the seat-mounted inboard airbag system”. If this happens, a “Service Restraints System” message will appear on the driver information center of the 2021 Escalade, preventing the deployment of the seat-mounted side airbags.

Cadillac dealers will verify whether the fault is present. If it is, they will replace the electrical connection. Together, these two labor operations are expected to take only a little over an hour to complete and will be made free of charge to owners until December 31st, 2022.

The 2021 Escalade is offered with two engine choices: a naturally-aspirated 6.2L V8 gasoline engine (production code L87) rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, or the optional 3.0L I6 turbo diesel engine (production code LM2) rated at 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Both are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Both the regular 2021 Escalade and the ESV are offered in five trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury Platinum and Sport Platinum. Rear-wheel-drive is standard, while 4WD is optional. The base MSRP, including destination charge, is $77,490 for the standard wheelbase Luxury with rear-wheel drive and either of the two engines.

Already on sale in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the 2021 Escalade will shortly become available in the Middle East and now be pre-ordered in Japan, though with a limited range of options and colors.
