Cadillac President Says Marque Is ‘Well Positioned’ To Handle Loss Of EV Tax Credits

Cadillac President John Roth shared a positive outlook on the luxury marque’s ability to navigate the elimination of federal EV tax credits.

“I think we’re well-positioned, but have adjustments we’ll need to make,” Roth replied when asked about the impending removal of the credit. “We make adjustments on a regular basis around the business. You can never stick your head in the sand and hope… that’s not a strategy. You’ve got to continue to work the business.”

Roth expanded by adding that “The auto business is not a straight line. The EV business is certainly not, and you’ve got to continue to make sure that you’re working your strategy, but also being consistent and disciplined with that strategy. That’s been a big focus of ours, and making sure that those consistencies produce results.”

Roth also shared that Cadillac is earning conquest sales from Tesla, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, and BMW. Additionally, the luxury marque recently reported strong sales, with Cadillac Q2 sales being the best since 2017. This is especially noteworthy since the new legislation could potentially cause domestic manufacturers to lose their competitive edge against foreign rivals despite a battery production tax credit specifically structured to exclude Chinese firms, which continue to lead in production of batteries for EVs as well as sales.

For now, consumers can expect a bit of stability surrounding the price of the Cadillac EVs. As such, we may see discounts offered on the Optiq, Lyriq, and some trims of the Vistiq. For reference, these models are all eligible for a federal EV tax credit through September 30th, 2025. Meanwhile, the flagship Cadillac Escalade IQ and Escalade IQL will likely be unaffected since they are ineligible for the credit.

  1. Cadillac buyers don’t need the tax credit since they are luxury car buyers!Second they are getting a tax break since they don’t pay the federal road taxes that are on gasoline!

  2. EV’s are an expensive gamble. Does the American public want an EV?
16% of Americans are “very likely” or “likely” to purchase an electric vehicle (EV).
The number of consumers who are “unlikely” or “very unlikely” to buy an EV has risen to 63%, also the highest since 2022.
What is Mary Bara trying to market, she is trying to sell something that 63% of Americans don’t want.
The American power grid is “Fragile at Best”, Blackouts and Brownouts now, what would happen if in Mary Bara’s world everyone would drive an EV because that is all GM sells? You either have the air conditioning on at home when it is 90 degrees or you charge your EV. If you live in California, you only have certain parts of the day that you can use electricity, I get home at 6:00 pm and my window for electricity usage was between 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm.
The cost to Upgrade America’s Power Grid: The Grid Needs A $20 Trillion Upgrade to Support Energy …
If GM had a CEO that was “Smart” and not just “Educated”………..
you would have a division at GM for all EVs, “GM Electric” in which all existing Divisions in GM would have 1 EV produced to represent their division. It’s called not putting all of your eggs in one basket.
Dipping your toe into the water to make sure you don’t get burned alive.

There is a difference between being Smart and being Educated:

You go to Harvard, Yale, Brown, or Stanford. like Mary Bara.
You memorize things and pass an exam and Graduate with your degree.
You are “Educated” But Not Smart. You can memorize things, pass an Exam
That means Nothing in the Real World…..where there is NOTHING to Memorize for some Exam…………………………………

People who are “Smart” don’t have to memorize anything, because they can make decisions on the fly, using their brain. When a decision needs to be made in 5 minutes….You make it…..because you are smart……….

    ………………….NOT EDUCATED…………………………..

I am 74 and have driven Cadillacs in 5 different decades of my life
and with Mary Bara at the helm, I fear for the future of my beloved Cadillac.
