The Cadillac Society Take

Simply put, Cadillac XT6 sales continue to lose ground to competitors, many of which have been treated to midcycle refreshes or complete overhauls, like the refreshed 2025 Lincoln Aviator or the all-new TX. At this time, Cadillac has not announced plans to answer the likes of the Aviator with an updated XT6 in North America, and we’ve learned that an updated Cadillac XT6 is planned, but it might be offered in China and not in North America, signaling that the XT6 will be sunset in the near future. The smaller XT5 will see very much the same fate.

A replacement for the XT6 is coming in the form of the all-electric Cadillac Vistiq, though whether consumers will follow Cadillac in switching from an internal combustion engine to a battery electric powertrain is currently unknown.

Until then, though, we expect Cadillac XT6 sales to continue to slide as buyers in the market for a three-row luxury crossover turn toward models that are newer, more modern and more competitive.

  1. The Cadillac XT6 is a great car/SUV/CUV. I have a 2024 Prem Lux, Platinum and I love it. It looks good, its comfortable, it drives beautifully, and it gets good gas mileage, 18.6 around town. The only reason it’s not selling better is because Cadillac doesn’t promote it. Just like they didn’t promote the CTS or the CT6. Both GREAT cars, both gone. The CTS is dead, and the CT6 has moved out of the US. Cadillac Management doesn’t seem to understand Marketing 101.

  2. A week ago I bought a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado LT because I recently purchased a travel trailer that pushed my 2022 XT6 Premium Luxury with Smart Towing too close to its 4,000-pound towing limit. I had planned to trade for a 2025 Buick Enclave Avenir or GMC Acadia Denali to obtain a 5,000 pound towing capacity. I just could not part with the XT6 though. Cadillac has deserted me by failing to provide an updated XT6 with a higher towing capacity.

    • It’s a shame and frustrating what Cadillac has allowed to happen with the XT6 and XT5 (particularly the XT5). Both have been allowed to languish, rendering them irrelevant in their respective spaces. Both models are nice, but they need to be standouts in this intensely competitive segment, and they simply aren’t. I continue to believe that Cadillac will not sell the Lyric in sufficient numbers to replace the XT5 nor sell enough Vistiqs to replace the XT6. Management at Cadillac should recognize that BOTH EVs and ICE vehicles need to be offered for the foreseeable future. I think brands offering hybrids will continue to make inroads until a larger percentage of drivers fully embrace EVs.
