Cadillac Sollei Concept Artists Reveal Design Sketches

The Cadillac Sollei concept was unveiled earlier this month at the Cadillac House at Vanderbilt, inspired by the sun and the epitome of the luxury marque’s latest EV design language. Cadillac showed us the concept convertible, and has now released a handful of design sketches that show the creative process behind the concept vehicle.

The exterior of the Cadillac Sollei was designed by Taka Suginoshita, while the interior design was the work of Keunhyuk Choi and Gary Mack. Colors, materials, and finish (CMF) design was handled by Hannah Dunbar. Throughout the process, the designers took inspiration from the sun, evidenced by the convertible’s sun ray design elements and light, airy yellow color scheme. Even its name, Sollei, is a reference to “Sol” meaning “Sun,” and “lei” referencing “leisure.”

“The Sollei’s exterior exudes emotion and embodies Cadillac’s unmistakable bold proportions,” reads a social media post from the luxury marque. “The low, elongated body is accentuated by a wide stance and long coupe door, facilitating easy access to the spacious rear cabin for ultimate comfort and relaxation.”

Standout features include a built-in beverage chiller with crystal glasses, while high levels of décor – such as unstained wood veneers – can be found throughout, creating an airy, sunny atmosphere. The concept sketches reveal the sun ray-inspired design etched into the seatbacks and center console, brought to life with an array of wood panels of all colors.

It’s also easy to see the inspiration derived from the Cadillac Celestiq, which served as the “donor car” for the Cadillac Sollei concept. The front ends are identical, sporting narrow horizontal lighting elements across the top of the five-point “grille” fitted with a dramatic LED display. In fact, Cadillac Society almost perfectly predicted the Sollei last year when we rendered the Celestiq as a make-believe convertible variant.
