As Cadillac steadily moves toward an all-electric future, its parent company, General Motors, aims to facilitate this transition with its “Winning With Simplicity” mission statement. This strategy involves streamlining its electric vehicle lineup, including the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq, which will feature significantly fewer parts compared to the 2024 model.
During GM’s recent Q2 2024 earnings presentation, CEO Mary Barra revealed that the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq will use 24 percent fewer parts than the outgoing 2024 model year Lyriq.
“Winning with simplicity, which is our drive to eliminate unnecessary complexity in the way we engineer and equip our vehicles, will help ensure that we can continue to sustain and even improve our margins in the future,” she said. “For example, through smarter contenting and optimizing selectable options, we have been able to eliminate more than 2,400 unique parts on 10 vehicles we’re launching through the first quarter of 2025. On the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq alone, we’ve reduced the part count 24 percent from the 2024 model year with no compromises to performance or features.”
Part of the strategy to simplify the Lyriq includes the deletion of quite a few vehicle subsystems and other electrical combinations. Not only will this help keep costs under control, but having fewer components also means there are fewer hardware and software systems that could potentially fail.
Additionally, as part of the ongoing simplification process, it’s likely that the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq will slash some trim levels from its lineup. The luxury brand might nix the base Lyriq Tech trim, as demand for this model could decrease with the introduction of the smaller and less expensive Cadillac Optiq luxury crossover. For reference, the Optiq is estimated to start at $54,000 with all-wheel-drive (AWD), while the Lyriq Tech rear-wheel-drive (RWD) starts at $58,590. It’s also worth noting that the Optiq and Cadillac Escalade IQ both launched with four trim levels – Luxury 1, Luxury 2, Sport 1, and Sport 2 – while the Lyriq’s trim level lineup is saturated with seven trims.
While it may drop some trims, as previously reported by Cadillac Society, the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq lineup is also expected to include the hotted-up Cadillac Lyriq-V. When it launches, this model will be the most powerful Lyriq to date.
