Certain 2024 model year Cadillac XT4, Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac XT6 luxury crossovers may have an issue with their transmissions. Cadillac has identified the issue and released a Service Update bulletin to address it.
Published in June 2024, Service Update No. N242446290 indicates that certain 2024 Cadillac XT4, 2024 Cadillac XT5, and 2024 Cadillac XT6 units may have a condition in which the clutch backing plate retaining ring and/or the clutch piston retaining ring inside the transmission are out of specification. To remedy this problem, a service will need to be performed at an authorized Cadillac dealership.
Note that this bulletin only involves vehicles in dealer inventory, and that it is not a recall. However, affected vehicles must be held at their respective dealership until the repair can be performed. The repair will be available until July 31st, 2025. Involved vehicles are marked “Open” on dealers’ Investigate Vehicle History screen in the GM Global Warranty Management System.
Cadillac did not indicate how many units of the XT4, XT5, and XT6 are affected by this Service Update. Additionally, several other vehicles produced by Cadillac parent, General Motors, are affected, including the 2024 Buick Encore GX, the 2024 Chevy Traverse, the 2024 Chevy Traverse Limited, the 2024 Chevy Blazer, the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer, the 2024 GMC Acadia and the 2024 GMC Terrain.
This isn’t the only issue affecting the transmissions of the aforementioned luxury crossovers. Recently, Cadillac released a fix for leaking transmission cases in the 2024 XT4, 2024 XT5, and 2024 XT6.
As a reminder, the 2024 Cadillac XT4 is fitted with the turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY) that produces 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, mated to the nine-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, both the XT5 and the XT6 are offered with either that same turbocharged I4 engine or the 3.6L V6 engine (production code LGX), which is available as an upgrade that makes 208 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are matched to the nine-speed automatic.
The Cadillac XT4 rides on the E2 platform, and assembly takes place at the Cadillac Fairfax plant in Kansas. The Cadillac XT5 and XT6 are underpinned by the C1 platform and are built at the Spring Hill plant in Tennessee.
