Cadillac F1 Team On Track To Race In 2026 Despite Pushback

Andretti Global has been pushing hard to make a Cadillac F1 team happen, and though the luxury marque’s application was cleared by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), it was recently rejected by Formula One Management. Despite this, Caddy and Andretti are confident that their joint effort will put them on the grid in 2026.

As per a recent report from The Athletic, Andretti says that a Cadillac F1 entry will be ready to roll for the 2026 season. When asked how likely it is that a monumental effort will be pulled together by then, Michael Andretti, CEO and chairman of Andretti Global, said, “Absolutely, 100 percent. No question.”

He added that the team is “100 percent planning” for this outcome, and is proceeding with plans to race as though F1 has already approved it. In fact, the organization recently opened the doors of a brand new factory in Silverstone that will serve as a satellite facility to its planned headquarters in Indiana. Andretti plans to hire up to 400 employees to staff the new facility, and says that it has already attracted plenty of talent from within the industry.

“I think you’d be amazed to see how far we are with car development and things like that. It’s been really impressive,” Andretti said.

He also said that he’s been pushing for in-person meetings to discuss the Cadillac F1 entry, hopefully proving his team’s commitment to the cause.

“We’re having meetings with them, and just showing… I don’t think they understand the level of commitment that we have here, not only from us, but also from General Motors,” he said, adding, “The US is still very fertile [for an F1 team]. I think with what we’re doing, we can really open it up a lot more and make it more lucrative, not just for us, but for the whole series.”

It’s worth noting that GM has already applied and been approved to become an F1 power unit manufacturer in 2028.
