Cadillac XT5, XT6 Recalled Over Transmission Sun Gear Issue

Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, has issued a recall for certain units of the 2023 Cadillac XT6 along with the 2022 and 2023 Cadillac XT5, to address an issue with the transmission sun gear.

The problem: the transmission in affected vehicles may have been built with an incorrect sun gear.

The hazards: if the vehicle was assembled with an incorrect transmission sun gear, the driver side half-shaft may become disengaged from the transmission. If this happens, then the vehicle may lose its drive power, or potentially roll away when placed in park. Either scenario could result in the increased risk of a crash.

The fix: a dealership technician will replace the sun gears of the Cadillac XT5 and XT6, free of charge to vehicle owners.

Affected vehicles:

  • 2022 Cadillac XT5
  • 2023 Cadillac XT5
  • 2022 Cadillac XT6

Number of affected vehicles:

  • 783 units of the XT5
  • 613 units of the XT6

Next steps: Cadillac will notify owners of affected units of the Cadillac XT5 and XT6 about this recall via mail, with letters being sent out beginning on May 1st, 2023. Vehicle owners can visit my.cadillac.com/recalls and input their vehicle’s VIN. 1. This is why I bought my leased cars. I don’t trust the cars they are making today to be dependable.

  2. We received recall letter 5/1/23 for our 2023 XT5. Regarding sun gear inside transmission.
Original release came out 4.06.23 and as of 6.07.23 there are no parts available to fix the problem. Why is it taking so long for GM to obtain the part to repair problem?
