Cadillac recently announced that it would expand the amount of roads compatible with its Super Cruise advanced hands-free driver assistant to over 400,000 miles of North American roads. However, while the Cadillac Escalade will enjoy the full scope of the update, its smaller cousin, the Cadillac XT6, will not be eligible to receive the coverage expansion.
That’s not to say that the XT6 will not get an expanded Super Cruise map at all. The luxury crossover will receive a smaller update, gaining 20,000 miles of driving coverage instead of the over 200,000-mile update planned for the Escalade. This is because the Cadillac XT6 does not utilize the luxury marque’s Global B software architecture, also known as the Vehicle Intelligence Platform (VIP). Instead, the XT6 uses the previous generation, known as Global A, which is less advanced and not as powerful when it comes to processing and signal throughout. As such, the XT6 is unable to receive the full Super Cruise update.
As a reminder, Super Cruise (production code UKL) allows drivers of an equipped vehicle to take their hands off the steering wheel and feet of the pedals under certain highway driving conditions and on compatible roads. The advanced driver assist system first became available for the Cadillac XT6 for the 2022 model year, when it was offered as an optional for the Luxury Premium and Sport trims, and was not offered at all on the base Luxury trim. Its availability for the 2023 model year remains the same.
As a reminder, the three-row luxury crossover rides on the luxury marque’s C1 platform and is offered with a choice of two engines. The first is the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 engine (production code LGX), rated at 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. This engine is standard on Premium Luxury and Sport models and is identifiable by the 400 badging on the liftgate.
The second is the turbocharged 2.0L I4 engine (production code LSY), which is rated at 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is offered exclusively in the base Luxury trim, and the liftgate wears the 350T badge to identify the boosted four. Both engines bolt to Cadillac’s nine-speed automatic transmission.
Production of the Cadillac XT6 occurs at the Cadillac Spring Hill plant in Tennessee, and assembly for the 2024 model year is expected to commence in June 2023. Notably, the 2024 model is expected (but not yet confirmed) to introduce a refresh for the XT6.
