2024 Cadillac Escalade To Feature New Duramax Diesel Engine

The 2024 Cadillac Escalade is slated for a mid-cycle refresh that will bring a host of updates and changes that will include new front and rear ends, as well as some other updates. Now, Cadillac Society has learned that there will be some changes inside the luxury SUV’s engine bay – namely, the addition of a new diesel engine option.

Specifically, the forthcoming 2024 Cadillac Escalade will offer parent General Motors’ 3.0L I6 turbodiesel Duramax engine (production code LZ0). It will replace the 3.0L I6 turbodiesel Duramax (production code LM2) that has been optional on the full-size luxury SUV for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 model years.

The new engine features several minor but important changes over its predecessor, including new steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl, a retuned turbo compressor, redesigned fuel injectors and improved temperature control features. These upgrades improve the turbodiesel’s torque and horsepower output, with the model set to output 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. By comparison, the outgoing LM2 is capable of 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

The LZ0 Duramax engine is already found in two vehicles under the GM umbrella, including full-size Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks.

The refreshed 2024 Cadillac Escalade will continue to ride on the luxury marque’s T1 platform, and will begin production at the Arlington plant in Texas in November 2023.
