The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq will have the hardware necessary for the Surround Vision Recorder System, which places several cameras around the vehicle in order to capture video of its surroundings. Cadillac Society has now learned that the technology will not be functional at the Lyriq’s launch.
Instead of being functional right out of the gate, the Surround Vision Recorder System will require a software update in order to become functional. In a similar vein, the Lyriq will need a software update in order to activate Super Cruise, Cadillac’s semi-autonomous driver assist system, so this isn’t totally out of the ordinary. At this time, it’s not clear when that software update will become available, or why the luxury marque elected to postpone Surround Vision Recorder functionality.
When it is activate, the Surround Vision Recorder System makes it possible to record footage from four exterior cameras that are seamlessly integrated into the body. There are two cameras in the exterior rearview mirrors, one within the front “grille,” and another stationed on the liftgate.
The front and rear cameras can record footage while the Lyriq is in motion, while all four cameras can be used as a security measure when the vehicle is parked. This footage is then stored and can either be transferred to a computer, or viewed directly on the Lyriq’s infotainment center screen.
As a reminder, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition was offered exclusively in the Luxury trim level with rear-wheel-drive. Subsequent models, however, will be available in either rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive.
Power output is rated at 340 horsepower for RWD models and 500 horsepower for AWD models. Pricing for the Lyriq Luxury RWD starts at $62,900, while that of the Lyriq Luxury AWD starts at $64,900. A broader range of trim levels, such as Premium Luxury and Sport, are expected to arrive for the 2024 model year.
